MYP framework guide
The IB learner profile
The learner profile describes the kind of person every IB programme aims to develop. MYP units name the attributes they nurture, and reflections and service give students genuine chances to practise them.
Attribute 1
Inquirers
Nurture curiosity and develop skills for inquiry and research, learning independently and with others.
Attribute 2
Knowledgeable
Develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across disciplines and engaging with issues of local and global significance.
Attribute 3
Thinkers
Use critical and creative thinking skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems.
Attribute 4
Communicators
Express themselves confidently in more than one language and in many ways, collaborating effectively and listening carefully.
Attribute 5
Principled
Act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and take responsibility for their actions and consequences.
Attribute 6
Open-minded
Critically appreciate their own cultures and the values and traditions of others, and seek and evaluate a range of points of view.
Attribute 7
Caring
Show empathy, compassion and respect, and act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and the world around them.
Attribute 8
Risk-takers
Approach uncertainty with forethought and determination, working independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and strategies.
Attribute 9
Balanced
Understand the importance of balancing intellectual, physical and emotional wellbeing for themselves and others.
Attribute 10
Reflective
Thoughtfully consider the world and their own ideas and experience, understanding their strengths and limitations to support learning.
Beyond a poster on the wall
The attributes count when they shape real tasks: a risk-taker attempts the stretch investigation, a caring student considers community impact in Criterion D, a reflective student closes a unit with honest self-assessment. Inquira AI can suggest which attributes each lesson plan genuinely develops.
